Factors to Consider When Opening a Business

When you have made the decision to start your own business there are some major areas to consider such as financing, market and staffing.

When it comes to financing, be sure you have enough money available to you to get through the initial stages of start up.  Even if the business is an instant success, the money won’t come rolling in instantly.  If you are relying on bank funding be sure to request sufficient start up costs.  Are you going to have to hire someone to do your accounting?  Plan on every expense you can imagine.  It is better to have too much money available than not enough.

Market is very important as well.   Be sure the market for your business is strong.  If there is already a coffee shop in town, can your market support two?  Be sure there is a need for the service or good you are considering offering.    If possible, do an informal survey of friends, family etc and see if there is an interest in whatever you are going to offer if you are adding a service to an existing business poll your current customers.

If your business succeeds you will probably need to add staffing.  Staffing in itself can be a great challenge for a business.  Be sure there is a pool of people that want work in your area and people that are dependable.   Business owners also have to be sure they can be competitive when it comes to wages.  It may take several tries before you can find a good fit.

The biggest cause for failures of new businesses is inadequate funding,   not knowing the market and inability to secure competent staff.  Be sure you are aware of these facets of business so your new business has a good chance of thriving!
